In-House Laboratory

Laboratory testing can provide critical information about the health of an animal in a veterinarian’s care. Urinalysis helps to detect infection or other problems within the urinary system. Blood chemistry tests offer a way to understand how organs are functioning within the animal’s body. It can detect anemia, infection, blood oxygen levels, endocrine system disorders, kidney problems, liver dysfunction, and bleeding disorders. Fecal tests allow vets to treat internal parasites and other gastrointestinal problems. Cytology tests provide information on abnormal growths and types of cancers.

X-Rays

Radiography, commonly known as x-rays, provides an image of hard structures inside the body, such as bones, joints, and the spine. It can detect injuries and blockages inside the body, so a vet can provide treatment to correct issues.

Ultrasound

Ultrasonography uses sound waves that bounce off the soft tissue inside the body to provide a digital image on a computer screen. Careful analysis of this image can reveal subtle changes the in tissues that could indicate injury or disease. Ultrasound can be used for a wide variety of problems, including reproductive issues, orthopedic problems, gastrointestinal issues, and heart problems. The technique provides a non-invasive way to aid in the diagnosis of many health conditions.

Endoscopy

An endoscope is a very narrow tube with a tiny camera at the end that is inserted into an animal’s body to view internal structures. It can be used for both diagnosing problems and for treating them. An endoscope can be used to see changes in the size and condition of the kidneys, liver, pancreas, intestines, and other organs that may indicate injury or disease. Endoscopes are also used for surgery.
